cline series #2

Installation views at Catharine Clark Gallery, San Francisco, CA (August, 2006). Aluminum, custom electronics, sound (dimensions variable).

The Cline Series is a set of pieces made from a group of metal loudspeakers that play a composition designed specifically for them.  Organic in appearance, the objects contain multiple permutations of simple visual forms.  The composition is derived from these shapes which are translated into tones that slowly trace their contours - sounds rendered directly from visual images. The title comes from a biological term that refers to the graded sequence of differences within a species, and the Cline Series uses this concept to explore systems of constrained variation in image and sound.
